LOCATION: Former Qwest Training Facility located at the intersection of NE 122nd St and Airport Way (5950 NE 122nd St, Portland, OR 97230)
START TIMES: The race will start at 10:00 am with a mass start.
DISTANCE: 5K Run, 15 mile Bike, 5K Run (semi-closed bike and run courses)
TRI NorthWest Ranked: This race is a TRI NorthWest Duathlon Ranked Event. All TRI NorthWest members receive a $10.00 discount.

PACKET PICKUP / REGISTRATIONRACE DAY: At Athletes Lounge (2671 NW Vaughn St, Portland, 97210) on Friday, April 18, from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. It will continue on race morning at the Start/Finish area from 8:00 am to 9:30 am.
T-SHIRTS: Due to the need to order T-shirts a few weeks prior to the race, we can only guarantee T-shirts and requested sizes to participants who registered by Monday, March 25. Those who registered after March 25th will not be guaranteed a shirt. Late registered participants can check in at the T-shirt tent after the race to pick up a shirt, if available. Additional shirts may be ordered post-race.A $10.00 shipping fee will be charged for post-race ordered shirts.
HOT BEVERGES: Chic’s Coffee Services will be on site selling beverages (specialty coffee drinks, tea, pop, bottled water, etc.) from their coffee truck.
DIRECTIONS TO RACE SITE: From the south (from Salem), take I-205 to Airport Way East (exit # 24). Turn into the QWEST Training Facility parking lot located on the north side of the road approximately 100 feet east of the intersection of 122nd Blvd. If you are coming from the north (Vancouver/Seattle) take I-5 to I-205 south (to Salem). Take the Airport Way exit (exit # 24) and go east on Airport Way to the intersection of 122nd Blvd. Turn into the QWEST Training Facility parking lot located on the north side of the road approximately 100 feet east of the intersection of 122nd Blvd. From the east (The Dalles) take I-84 west to 181st St (exit 13) and turn north to Airport Way. Turn left (west) on Airport Way and turn into the QWEST Training Facility parking lot located on the north side of the road approximately 100 feet prior to the intersection of 122nd Blvd. From downtown Portland take I-84 east towards The Dalles and take the 122nd Blvd Exit (# 10). Turn north (right) back under the freeway and follow 122nd to Airport Way. Turn right (east) on Airport Way and into the QWEST Training Facility parking lot located on the north side of the road approximately 100 feet ahead.
CONFIRMATION: Please check the participant confirmation list on our website at:www.aasportsltd.com/springclassic to make sure all the information is correct and take note of your assigned bib number to expedite the packet pickup process.
PARKING RACE MORNING: There should be parking in the Qwest Training Facility parking lot. Please travel to the site on Airport Way (not Marine Drive).
BEFORE ENTERING THE TRANSITION: You must have your body marked, and your bike number on your bike. No exceptions. Only registered athletes are allowed in the transition area. Remember that this rule is in place to support the safety and security of your equipment.
BODY MARKING: Make sure your body is marked with your race number on your left calf, and your AGE on your right calf. (The age on your right calf is for your benefit only-this will allow you to watch for those in your competitive division during the race.)
PRACTICE/PRE-RACE RIDING: The planned schedule is to shutdown Marine Drive to vehicle traffic starting at 9:00 am race morning. An announcement will be made to verify that all volunteers and police are in place and the course is secure to allow you to ride and practice pre-race. For your safety, do not start practicing until the announcement has been made.
BIKE NUMBER: Make sure you have your bike number on your bike prior to entering the transition area.
CHAMPIONCHIP TIMING: To receive results all participants must wear a Timing Chip on their ankle. You must return the Chip at the Finish Line. Timing Chips are expensive and you will be billed $30 for failing to turn in your Chip.
COURSES: Both runs will be out & back 5K’s, flat and fast on Marine Drive. The bike is 15 miles, flat & fast also on Marine Drive (semi-closed to traffic).
BIKE COURSE VOLUNTEERS & OFFICIALS: There will be Portland Police, dedicated volunteers, and the AA Sports management team.
BIKE TROUBLE: If you have a mechanical failure and you are unable to fix it, someone will be along to pick you up and bring you back to the finish.
RULES OF THE ROAD AND THE RACE: We will be competing under the TRI NW Rules of Competition. You need to be familiar with these rules. The rules are posted on the TRI NW website:www.trinw.com.
WATER STOPS: Water stops will be at both turnarounds on the run and at the finish line. Heed Electrolyte will be provided on course and at start/finish.
RELAY TEAMS: Each teammate will wear their own designated bib number and Timing Chip in order to give you your individual splits. After having your body marked, please place your gear and bikes at the designated “Relay” area in the transition. During competition, you must tag (touch finger tips) at the designated Team Start location upon finishing or starting your segment of the event.VERY IMPORTANT: If you are the cyclist or 2nd runner, please be very careful NOT to cross any timing mats as you are wandering around prior to the start of your individual leg. If you cross a mat after the race has begun, your time will start at the time you stepped on the mat. We want you to have a good race and accurate results, and it is very important that you understand this element of the timing process. Team runner #1 and cyclists must turn in their Timing Chip at the finish line or to the AA Sports volunteer at the “team start” location in the transition.
ON-SITE BICYCLE REPAIR: Athletes Lounge will be on-site to provide bike support, look for their tent. They will also have accessories available for sale.
POST RACE FESTIVITIES: Festivities include a live band (Ben Rice Band), the Deschutes Brewery Beer Garden, food including Bob’s Red Mill Oatmeal with toppings, fruit, trail mix, cookies, and strawberry shortcake. Please visit the sponsor/vendor booths (see list below). The awards ceremony (for Overalls only) will be held at approximately 11:30 am.
AWARDS/PRIZES: Awards will be available for the Overall Male & Female, and Masters Male & Female (will be taken out of age groups), as well as three deep in the age divisions, two deep in each team division. The Award Ceremony will consist of just the overalls awards, however, age group medals will be available for pickup at the results posting table any time after the results are posted. Burkhardt’s Florist has supported the event with great Gift Baskets for the Overall Male/Female and Overall Master Male/Female.

PENROSE PHOTOGRAPHY: They will be on-site to capture your finish line and course pictures. Make sure that you have your bib number visible on your front when you finish the run so that they can match you up with your picture. You can view your pictures by going to www.finishshots.com
RESULTS: Results will be posted at the finish line, and official results will be posted on our website at www.aasportsltd.com
