About the Event
UPDATE: Blue Lake has reopened – water samples taken before and after the precautionary closure have shown safe, healthy water. Blue Lake is one of the most frequently tested bodies of water in the NW and it has multiple underwater aerators and other systems in place to keep the water fresh and healthy!
Justin Patterson, Metro parks and property stewardship program director, had this to say today: “Metro is excited to welcome athletes to Blue Lake Regional Park for sporting events, including triathlons — a great chance to enjoy the park’s safe and scenic namesake lake. We test the water twice a week to make sure Blue Lake is clean and healthy, and we’ve seen consistently great results this summer. On the rare occasions that we close the lake, it’s typically a precaution meant to put visitors first.”
“Come On In, The Water’s Fine!”
*THIS EVENT IS DESIGNATED AS THE TRI NORTHWEST SPRINT DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR 2014 - See www.trinw.com for details
Part of the AA Sports, Ltd. Multi-Sport Summer Series 2014
The 20th Annual Mid-Summer Triathlon & Duathlon is held as part of a two day multi-sport celebration offered within an incredible Hawaiian Style Experience! The event is great for not only the experienced triathlete, but for the novice triathlete as well. The start / finish venue is located within beautiful Blue Lake Park where you will swim in 72+ degree water (many athletes don’t even wear a wetsuit!). The bike course is held almost entirely on Marine Dr which is closed to thru vehicle traffic (local traffic only and there is little of that). No railroad tracks, just 12 miles (Sprint distance race) or 24.5 miles (Olympic distance race) of smooth pavement to compete on during the bike leg. (Note: there is one railroad track crossing on the Olympic Distance that is covered with carpeting). The course is virtually flat with the only appreciative elevation gain or loss. The event offers three triathlon distances to choose from (Olympic, Sprint and Novice) as well as a Sprint distance duathlon. The flat and fast course with little to no traffic, warm water and a beautiful start / finish venue make the Mid-Summer Triathlon/Duathlon an ideal event.

Will be presented to the Overall Male & Female champions and Overall Masters Male & Female champions (Overall and Masters champions will be removed from the individual age division awards). Awards will also be presented to the 1st thru 3rd place finishers in each individual age division, as well as the Open & Masters Clydesdale & Athena divisions. The 1st and 2nd place teams in each relay division will also receive awards.
Individuals: 12-14, 15-17, 18-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & over. Clydesdale’s (men 198 lbs & over) and Athena’s (women 150 lbs & over) in Open (39 & under) and Masters (40 & over) divisions.
Triathlon Relay Teams: (combined 3 ages) 105 & under and 106 & over in Men’s, Women’s and Mixed divisions.
Friends & Family Division: A non-competitive division created for the sole purpose of allowing participants of different ages and genders to swim in the same wave. For example, this allows fathers/daughters, mothers/sons, husband /wives, boyfriends/girlfriends, siblings, etc. to enjoy the triathlon together and to help one another through the swim leg of the event. When participants fail to swim in their correct wave, as determined by age & gender in most all triathlons, their split times and finish time are compromised. So, if you choose to participate out of your wave choose this division to uphold the integrity of your results and the overall results of the event.
Duathlon Relay Teams (combined 2 ages): 0-70, 71-90 & 91+ in men’s, women’s, and mixed divisions.
NOTE: Awards Ceremony will commence at the conclusion of the event and winners must pick up their awards. Awards will not be mailed.
