About the Event
12/26/13 – 10K JUST ADDED: In response to the growing number of requests for a longer distance race option at First Run on New Year’s Eve, a 10K Run has been added to the line-up, joining the 5K and 1.5-mile distances which are already part of the First Run/Walk tradition.
For those who want to start off the New Year at Midnight in a kick-it kind of way, this is a great option. The 10K course will be a double-loop of the new, beautiful 5K course, which follows the waterfront on both the West and East Esplanades, and runs over the Steel and Hawthorne Bridges! The reflection of holiday and city lights on the water will be spectacular and you’ll want to make that second loop!
If you haven’t registered yet for one of the First Run races, you can do so until Monday, Dec 30th. If you have already registered for the 5K but would like to switch to the 10K, please email our office by Monday, 12/30 at 12:00noon at email@example.com so that we can make the change to your registration. Then you will simply need to make the $10 upgrade payment on Dec 31st, when you pick up your packet and race bib, either at the downtown Foot Traffic (between 11 am & 4 pm) or at the World Trade Center(from 10 pm until 11:45 pm). It is always important that you wear the correct bib for the distance/race in which you will participate!
It’s a Tradition! Make it yours! The First Run & Walk will start at the stroke of Midnight. What better way to bring in the New Year than to celebrate with hundreds of your family, friends, and neighbors. The courses take participants along the waterfront and the 5K crosses 2 bridges, with spectacular nighttime views of the lights of our beautiful city. Enjoy the fitness benefits of a run or walk, and a celebration with food & beverages, music & dancing, and holiday fun before and after! Costumes are encouraged! There will be a contest for best “get-up”.

WHEN & WHERE
Tuesday, December 31st, World Trade Center, 121 SW Salmon St. Party begins at 10:00 pm. Stay warm with music, dancing and perusing the expo while getting ready for the start. The run/walk begins at midnight, flowing along the beautiful waterfront, and over 2 downtown bridges (5K & 10K). The views will be breathtaking!

Pre-Event Packet Pickup & Registration will be available at Foot Traffic in Downtown Portland, 333 SW Taylor St., on Tuesday, Dec. 31st from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Event Packet Pickup & Registration will take place from 10 p.m. to 11:45 p.m Tuesday night at the Start/Finish area at World Trade Center, 121 SW Salmon St.

Free on Street Parking is available. The Max Line is located two blocks from the World Trade Center, making it a good option for participants. Please check the MAX Lightrail schedule for final arrival & depature times going to your destination. The website is www.trimet.org/max
- All rides free after 8 pm on December 31.
- Blue Line and Red Line: every 15 minutes until 1am
- Blue Line will continue to run every 30 minutes tip 3 am (last train leaves downtown at 3 am)
- Red Line service ends at 1 am, with shuttle buses between Gateway Transit Center and the airport continuing until 3 am
